Ontario Bean Producers Funding For New Bean Variety Development

Ontario Bean Producers’ Marketing Board (OBPMB) is receiving $840,000 from the federal government to develop new bean varieties for Canadian and international markets. Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb made the announcement at the farm of Grant Jones outside Hensall on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. Beans are a great source of protein Ben Lobb said, and beans are a great alternative from other sources of protein to people around the world. Grant Jones, chair of the research committee of the Ontario Bean Producers Marketing Board says its a fantastic investment the government is making in agriculture. The research funds are greatly needed to continue looking for new initiatives and markets Jones said.
